Delisted Fremantle midfielder Connor Blakely has reached out to St Kilda boss Ross Lyon amid talks with the Gold Coast Suns.

Blakely, now 26, has been starved for opportunities at the AFL level, playing the entirety of his 2022 season for Fremantle's WAFL affiliate Peel Thunder.

The delisted Docker's best years were played under Lyon, breaking lines and collecting possessions at will from half back.

With the desire to play AFL-level football still strong, Blakely revealed his talks with Lyon over the recent season.

"I sent Ross a message throughout the year and had a good chat on the phone about what I can do to try and force my way back in," Blakely told SEN WA.

"I actually did send him a message when he got the gig at the Saints. When we did have that chat during the year I outlined that I still have a desire to play at the highest level.

"He sent a nice message back saying, 'Thanks mate, next time I talk to list management I'll mention your name but I can assure you there are no guarantees.'

"Hopefully something comes of it."

Blakely's talks with Gold Coast have continued through the post-season, and the 26-year-old feels confident he'll get his next opportunity at the Sunshine State club.

"My managers have been working pretty hard and the Gold Coast is looking pretty likely at this stage, so fingers crossed for that come National and Rookie Drafts," said Blakely.

"Hopefully that does happen. It's looking pretty good at the moment but nothing is guaranteed until your name is read out or you sign the contract."

In an impressive WAFL season for Peel Thunder, Blakely averaged 24.9 disposals and 5.1 marks.

The midfielder has played 78 games at the AFL level, averaging 19 disposals across his career, and would add valuable experience to a young Suns team.
