Brisbane have announced that construction on their new $80 million base is set to conclude in October, with both their men's and women's team set to call the new Springfield facility home.
Alongside the new Brighton Homes Arena, which will be used by the entirety of the Lions staff, will be the new 10,000 seat Michael Voss Oval, planned to be used for Brisbane AFLW home matches and men's pre-season and Academy matches.
The Lions have affirmed their commitment to their women's program, with their new home centre boasting equal access to club facilities and equal-sized changerooms.
The club is hoping the world class facilities will be a drawcard to attract players up north, according to Lions' chair Andrew Wellington.
"We think this will be a benchmark not just in Australian rules football, but across female professional sport, full-stop," Wellington said.
"For those that have been involved in AFLW since it started, there's a real mix of facilities for women as they travel around the country, and they are elite athletes.
"This is going to be the first purpose-built stadium, and the changerooms and facilities for them are first class.
"Athletes want to be in an environment where you're giving them the best chance to be successful, so when we can create this environment out here, it's a great attribute to retain players and attract new players hopefully."
Funding for the new Brighton Homes Arena has come both from the government and the AFL, with the new facility to become the most expensive in the competition.
The Lions have lobbied for their women's team to play home games at the new Michael Voss Oval in the second half of the upcoming AFLW season, which the league has declined.
