Contracted Suns forward Mabior Chol appears set to return to Melbourne for the 2024 season after nominating Hawthorn as his desired location for a trade.

Despite being tied to Gold Coast for a further two seasons, Chol, 26, has opted out at Carrara, instead seeking to join Sam Mitchell's men at some stage throughout the next fortnight.

While Hawthorn's offer to Chol looks set to win out, the former Tiger had been courted by each of the Crows and Kangaroos.

However, as reported by AFL Media's Callum Twomey on Thursday, the Roos have joined the Crows in being gazumped, with Hawthorn now tipped to land the VFL premiership player.

Though contracted, Gold Coast has confirmed it will allow Chol join his third club this off-season as the Sunshine State side prepares itself welcome Academy forward Jed Walter at November's draft.

Chol will now join fellow Suns forwards in Chris Burgess and Brodie McLaughlin in heading for the exit after the former put in a request to join the Crows and the latter was delisted earlier this week.

At present, Hawthorn currently holds 5, 13, 25 and 33 at the 2023 AFL Draft in order to broker a deal.

Since being brought through the doors at Punt Road with the 30th selection on the 2016 AFL Rookie Draft, Chol has bagged 78 goals in 61 starts with both the Tigers and Suns.
