Collingwood legend Peter Moore has put forward Australian sporting icon John Bertrand as a left-field contender for the vacant presidency role at the Holden Centre, per SEN.

Bertrand, a member of Australia's famous America's Cup victory in 1983, is a former president of Swimming Australia and is currently chairman of the Sports Australia Hall of Fame.

Collingwood is set to undergo a thorough process to find the successor to Eddie McGuire, who had held down the position since 1998.

McGuire announced his resignation on Tuesday, subsequent to the release of the 'Do Better' report into the club's issues with systematic racism, which led to heavy criticism of both Collingwood and McGuire.

Speaking to SEN Breakfast, Moore said the club should consider candidates outside of the club, like Bertrand.

“I don’t know whether they should go for one of the internal people, I don’t know the people involved,” he said.

“I wouldn’t mind seeing someone from outside, like a really high-calibre, someone that comes to mind is someone like John Bertrand.

“He headed up Swimming Australia and has run big organisations in the past and (is) involved in sport and understands the culture and understands sport."
