Adelaide Crows defender Billy Frampton is reportedly a done deal to Collingwood.

The former Port Adelaide player couldn't establish his position in the side's starting 22 this season, playing only six games despite some solid outings in a new role as a defender, including a 22-disposal, 9-mark effort against Richmond in Round 5 and a 26-disposal, 9-mark display against the Western Bulldogs the week after.

Frampton's last game at senior level came against Carlton in Round 8 before spending the remainder of the year in the SANFL.

With Adelaide establishing a solid young back six including key defender Jordon Butts, Nick Murray and Tom Doedee working alongside Brodie Smithย and Jordan Dawson, the 26-year-old ultimately found himself on the outer.

Frampton is out of contract with the club not offering him a new deal, withย SEN'sย Sam Edmund reporting a move to the Magpies is imminent.

โ€œCollingwood are bringing in Dan McStay, but Billy Frampton Iโ€™m told is basically over the line at Collingwood," Edmund said onย Whateley.ย

โ€œHe will come in from Adelaide, Bobby Hill as well, barring any late hiccups.

โ€œImagine Bobby Hill and Jack Ginnivan in the same forward line as well, Dan McStay and what that might do for Brody Mihocek.

โ€œYou can see what Collingwood is trying to do to better balance that list.โ€

Collingwood's interest for the athletic 201cm Frampton comes as the Magpies look to establish its tall stocks, with his versatility allowing him to play a multitude of positions including down back, in the ruck and up forward.

Taken by Port Adelaide as a late pick - 84th overall in the 2014 draft, Frampton couldn't get any continuity at Alberton, only playing only three games in five seasons before being traded to West Lakes for a future fourth-round selection at the end of 2019.

He has played 24 games in six seasons.
