Adelaide chairman John Olsen has addressed the ongoing negotiations regarding of a pair of out-of-contract Crows as the trade period edges nearer.
Tom Doedee and Matt Crouch remain without contracts for next season, with Adelaide's season officially concluded as of Saturday night.
Despite registering a victory over the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium on Saturday, the Crows were already out of finals contention, having been controversially defeated by the Swans the weekend previous.
With Adelaide's home-and-away season now in the rearview mirror, the West Lakes club will soon turn its attention to the list management aspect of its operation in the lead-up to the player exchange window, before the National Draft in November.
Olsen spoke to News Corp about the Crows futures of Doedee and Crouch ahead of Saturday's win over the Eagles.
First, regarding Doedee, Olsen claimed he wanted to see the defender remain at West Lakes 'for life', despite interest from rival clubs.
"I'd like to see Tom be a Crow for life and would hope we might be able to get that end result. That's the basis of contract negotiations and discussions," Olsen said, via the Adelaide Advertiser.
As Doedee is a restricted free agent, the Crows are entitled to match any contending bid for the intercepting defender.
With reference to Crouch, Olsen praised the veteran's efforts at SANFL level before returning to Matthew Nicks' senior side and making an impact, noting talks around a potential new deal for him will take place over 'the next week or two'.
"The quality of Matt Crouch has shown up during the course of the year when he's been prepared to play and give his all in the SANFL, then (again) in these last five games at AFL level," said Olsen.
"Contract negotiations will take place in the next week or two and I'd also like to see him continue."
Dissimilar to Doedee's situation, Crouch is an unrestricted free agent, meaning he can sign with any club he chooses without any Adelaide resistance.
Despite showing significant interest in South Australian defender Mason Redman, the hard-nosed Bomber re-signed at Tullamarine, prompting questions about whether Adelaide will make a play for an alternative commodity this year.
"List management is a very complicated scenario and not always will you enter the market if the person you want is not available," detailed Olsen.
"The progression of a number of our players might mean we have changed what our needs are and making an assessment over the next three to five years [about] what the composition of the team should look like. We'll make a value judgment as to who is available."
This year's free agency and trade space is set to open in early October.
