Adelaide ruckman Sam Jacobs says the Crows are focusing on the positives that took them to the 2017 grand final as they look to go one better this season.
After being the best team for the majority of the season, Jacobs believes the Crows can take that confidence into the 2018 season as they look to grow their game to greater heights.
“I think you need to continue on,” Jacobs said.
“There’s a lot of positives.
“In reckon in this game a lot of people look at the negatives and what needs to be improved, but I thought last year we got a lot right.
“Obviously we played in a grand final and we didn’t get the result we wanted but before that we had two fantastic finals, which is important to play well in big games and I think you will see a Crows team that’s going to build on what we did last year.”
The Crows have added former Carlton star Bryce Gibbs to an already impressive midfield group and despite losing a couple of players from their grand final side, Jacobs believes the maturing of younger players will only help the Crows improve.
“We just need to fine-tune a few things and there are going to be a few personnel changes, which has already been spoken about.
“I think there’s enough there to keep us fresh and enough will change to give us every chance.”
Meanwhile, while the Crows have not officially named their captain for 2018, coach Don Pyke suggested there is nothing that has changed to take the role away from Taylor Walker.
Pyke squashed suggestions that the club should offer midfielder Rory Sloane the captaincy to entice the All-Australian to spurn free agency offers at the end of the season.
“To entertain offering the captaincy in the line of recruitment is almost offensive,” Pyke said on Tuesday.
“We have a process in place (for selecting the captain),” added Pyke, referring to the player voting system that must be endorsed by the club board.
“And the integrity of that process will not be compromised.”
