Ross opts out of free agency

St Kilda midfielder Seb Ross has turned his back on free agency and has signed a two-year extension with the Saints.

The 28-year-old did test the open market before eventually deciding to recommit to the Saints until the end of 2023.

Ross is the latest St Kilda free agent to be locked away at Moorabbin after Jack Billings put pen to paper on a four-year extension earlier this year.

Bulldogs defender requests trade to Victorian rival

Western Bulldogs defender Lewis Young has reportedly requested a trade to Carlton, per AFL.com.au's Callum Twomey.

Reports emerged last week that Young would assess his options outside of Whitten Oval after being out-of-favour under coach Luke Beveridge this season.

Veteran Hawk asked to assess options despite contract

As the Sam Mitchell era continues its metamorphosis at Hawthorn, yet another veteran finds himself being squeezed out by the Hawks as they look to rebuild in the image of their club champion.

As per SEN's Sam Edmund, ruckman Jonathon Ceglar has been informed by the Hawks that he should โ€œexplore opportunities elsewhereโ€. This revelation comes despite the fact that Ceglar is currently under contract for the 2022 season, given he signed a three-year extension back in 2019.

Ceglar's manager, Liam Pickering, told Zero Hanger that they had been in contact with Geelong at this early stage. Pickering confirmed that they had yet to hear from any other clubs at this point.

Edmund's report added that the Hawks have shown some interest in young Magpies tall Max Lynch, who is facing an unclear future at the Holden Centre.

Richmond push back on modest Coleman-Jones offer

Richmond and North Melbourne still sit a fair way apart on a deal that would see Callum Coleman-Jones walk through the doors at Arden Street.

The two clubs kicked off official negotiations as the trade period got underway, with the Tigers knocking back the first offer from the Kangaroos.

The Herald Sun is reporting that the Tigers weren't thrilled with the original offer of North Melbourne. The Kangaroos are set on keeping their pick 20, with their next selection coming at pick 38.

However, Richmond is keen on that pick 20 given that is the selection they used to recruit Coleman-Jones four years ago.

Swans name price for wantaway Dawson

Sydney has set their price for South Australian Jordan Dawson who requested a trade back home last month.

Dawson has nominated Adelaide as his preferred destination. However, the Crows' draft hand means negotiations may well drag out.

The Herald Sun is reporting that Sydney is asking for an early first-round draft pick for the classy left-footer, with Adelaide holding pick four in the first round. However, the Crows won't be parting ways with that selection.

Dogs eye off Hawthorn defender

The Western Bulldogs have identified Hawthorn high-flyer, Tim O'Brien, as possible cover with defender Lewis Young reportedly requesting a trade to Carlton.

O'Brien is a free agent and would be a like-for-like replacement for Young who played as a defender, forward and backup ruck throughout his nine games in 2021.

AFL.com.au journalist Callum Twomey is reporting that O'Brien is now a target of the Bulldogs who have offered Young a contract.

Rivals circling Port pair

Port Adelaide duo Sam Powell-Pepper and Peter Ladhams are being courted by two rivals at the start of the trade period.

Ladhams was reportedly told by Port Adelaide to explore his options away from Alberton. The ruckman has been linked with moves to St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs, with both teams in search of another ruck option.

But a new suitor has emerged for Ladhams according to a report from Fox Sports journalist Tom Morris, with Sydney renewing its interest in him. The Swans made a play at Ladhams last year but were unable to pry him out of Port Adelaide.

Cats decline original Fremantle offer for Clark

Geelong has knocked back Fremantle's first offer for lively youngster Jordan Clark.

The Herald Sun is reporting that the Cats have asked for Fremantle's pick eight in exchange for the 20-year-old. That was quickly knocked back by Fremantle.

The Dockers are keen to bring the Western Australian back home and Clark is keen to play senior footy, with opportunities at Geelong being hard to come by.

Tom Morris of Fox Footy is reporting that Fremantle put pick 27 on the table last week but the Cats flatly refused the offer.

Doubt cast over Roosโ€™ plans for Suns midfielder

North Melbourne will need to increase their offer for contracted Sun Darcy Macpherson if they want the midfielder to move back to Victoria.

Fox Sports' Tom Morris has reported that North Melbourne has put a two-year offer in front of Macpherson. This initial offer is unlikely to be lucrative enough for Macpherson to change clubs in the off-season, as he is currently contracted with the Suns until the end of 2022.

The offer from North Melbourne is believed to be a promising financial figure, while also giving the midfielder an extra season.
