Danger gets whacked for suggesting shortened fixture

AFL player manager Craig Kell has responded to Cats star Patrick Dangerfield's call to reduce the length of the AFL fixture.

The AFLPA president said on SEN's Whateley this morning that the concerning amount of injuries through the season is because there are too many games, suggesting a shorter season could help put a limit on casualties.

“Perhaps you should ring Patty (Patrick Dangerfield) up and say: ‘righteo mate, we’ll just take a haircut in your pay because now you’re playing less games, less TV and less coverage' and see how he responds to that," Kelly told SEN’s Time On.

“When I played we played each other twice and it was easy. The best competition is when you can play each other twice and have a couple of byes.

“The reality is, time wise and player fatigue wouldn’t allow it.

“It’s a big point at headquarters that they’re trying to work out a way of making a competition fair based on the fixture and it’s very hard with the number of teams that we’ve got.”
