Geelong star Patrick Dangerfield suffered an injury scare in the opening quarter of the Cats' close win over Hawthorn on Saturday afternoon, and the incident had an unbelievable impact on the 2017 Brownlow Medal betting odds.

Dangerfield sustained a lower leg injury in the opening quarter after kicking the back of Jarryd Roughead's leg while trying to kick the ball.

Dangerfield ran straight down into the rooms following the incident, and it looked like his day was done then.

The superstar then returned to the bench just minutes later and played the final moments of the first quarter, before going back down to the rooms during the quarter time break.

He was moved to full forward in the second term and had a massive influence on the result, booting an incredible 5.6.

But for those few minutes when Dangerfield was down in the rooms for the first time, his Brownlow odds almost tripled.

Dangerfield was initially $1.97 before moving out and peaking at $5.4, and returned to $2.9 by the half time break.

Dangerfield did his Brownlow chances no harm against the Hawks, and is in line for all three votes again after his day out in front of goals.
