Geelong have confirmed a new two-year deal for young gun Sam De Koning that will take the premiership Cat's contract through to the end of 2027.
De Koning was due to come out of contract at the cessation of the current season and had reported interest from St Kilda in 2025, but has decided to ink an extension early into his sixth season at Kardinia Park.
The new deal will take the 204cm ruck-defender hybrid through to his free agency season and will add to his games tally of 65 beyond this year.
"I'm excited to commit for at least the next two years. Geelong has become home for me, and I absolutely love everything the Club and region offers,โ De Koning said in a club statement.
โSince being drafted, I've been lucky enough to play with some great players and enjoy team success, and the group we are building now has a bright future ahead, and I'm excited to be part of it.โ
De Koning has been a key piece under Chris Scott over the past three seasons, enjoying a breakout 2022 campaign as Geelong paved a way through to a premiership.
Starting his career as a key defender, De Koning has found success as a ruckman over the past 12 months to flex his versatility.
โSam is a quality person and player, and we are really pleased he has re-signed with us.
โWe look forward to seeing Sam continue to develop as a footballer and flourish alongside our core group of young, emerging players.โ
De Koning has played in all three games for Geelong so far this season, featuring as the first-string ruckman in each match.
