Melbourne has announced its latest list change, delisting former Next Generation Academy pickup Deakyn Smith.

Smith, 21, joined the Demons during the 2020 pre-season draft, making the move to Gosch's Paddock from the Dandenong Stingrays.

While the Doveton junior would fail to lace the boots at AFL level during his three seasons with Melbourne, Smith was able to play a helping hand for the club's VFL affiliate, Casey, featuring in 44 appearances.

Speaking in the wake of cutting ties with the utility, Demons lists boss Tim Lamb wished to thank Smith for all of his efforts while wearing the red and the blue.

“It's always a tough time of year and making list changes is never an easy decision,” Lamb told Melbourne Media.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, we would like to thank Deakyn for his commitment and dedication to the football program over the last three years. We wish him all the best for future endeavours.”

Smith follows veteran defender Michael Hibberd in heading for the exit after the premiership-winner called time on his career earlier this month.

Lamb has further list calls to make, with Andy Moniz-Wakefield, Kye Turner, James Jordon, Luke Dunstan and the injured Jake Melksham all uncontracted for the 2024 season.
