The 12 players worthy of a second chance in the AFL

Which delisted free agent would you want your club looking to recruit?

The delisted free agency pool holds another extensive list of AFL players that may have more to offer in 2022.

With clubs containing to finalise their squad for next season with both gains and losses, those that are keen to continue recruiting may look to those that hold experience in the top flight.

With this in mind, we look at 14 players with left plenty to offer that could gain a reprieve ahead of the new year.

Trent Dumont

The axed Kangaroo is more than capable of having a strong impact in the engine room, offering plenty of movement on the outside of a midfield ensemble.

A fitting suitor for a premiership contending club, Dumont would add great depth to any side hoping to further strengthen their ranks and add a selection headache.

Also bringing in great leadership qualities, the 26-year-old has played 113 as a stalwart at Arden Street and has plenty of good football left in him.

Brayden Sier

The big-bodied midfielder always looked destined to be unleashed into the Magpies' midfield and enter a breakout campaign at the Holden Centre, but a jump to the next gear never took flight.

Sier showed plenty of potential in his debut season of 2018, even playing a key role in the Magpies' Grand Final performance loss to West Coast.

Form and injuries placed Sier's career on edge, with Collingwood now pulling the trigger to offload the 23-year-old in 2021.

With the potential to explode still there, Sier could be a formidable addition to a midfield lacking a contested advantage and would come at a cheap price for any keen suitor.

Charlie Constable

An unlucky product of the Cats' recruitment drive, there is very little else Constable could have done in the reserves to warrant more minutes in Chris Scott's side.

A surprising lack of interest elsewhere has placed the tall onballer without a contract for 2022, with financial and list size limitations perhaps playing a part in clubs opting not to circle the VFL ball-magnet

The Cats are set to consider re-listing Constable should no suitors emerge in the coming weeks, but the 22-year-old would be a great addition for several sides needing to add to their midfield depths.

Taylin Duman

Clubs have identified tall defenders as a position of desire, while the Dockers parted with Duman as a result of having an excess of key backman themselves.

A string of setbacks in the build-up to the 2021 season had Duman behind the peckig order under Justin Longmuir, with likes of Luke RyanAlex PearceGriffin LogueHayden Young and Brennan Cox favoured.

Having shown plenty of poise across his 45 games in purple, Duman would be a valuable addition to any side looking to heighten their defensive structure next season.

James Cousins

One of several surprising delistings this off-season, Cousins still had plenty to offer Hawthorn's rebuild under Sam Mitchell at just 23 years of age.

With the Hawks flipping their first-string wing pairing following the departure of Isaac Smith last year, Cousins also found himself out-of-favour at times throughout 2021.

Despite the setbacks, Cousins still managed to average close to 19 disposals, four tackles and four inside 50s per game this year, and would be another bargain buy for clubs hoping to add to their engine room.

Oliver Hanrahan

Another Hawks perhaps unlucky with the ongoing changes at Waverley, however a number of clubs are understood to be showing interest.

The Saints and Giants are tipped to expressing some attention toward the swift forward, while the Suns and Cats have also shown a history of interest.

A clever eye in front of goal, Hanrahan would offer a great threat in attack to any side hoping to bolster their small forward stocks.

Aaron vandenBerg

Decided to depart the Demons shortly after their Grand Final win in hope of landing greater opportunities elsewhere, with rival clubs sure to be keeping an eye on the bullish onballer.

Was another name placed further back in the pecking order of a premiership contender despite holding the ability to impact at AFL level.

Had just the one full-match appearance in 2021, with three of his four games for the year coming as a sub - two of which going unused.

Collected 16 touches and recorded four tackles, four inside 50s and three rebounds 50s in his four-quarter showing against the Hawkins in Round 18.

Hamish Hartlett

Would add plenty of experience to a young side while also being a formidable ready-made addition for a premiership contending side in 2022.

Hartlett is able to play in defence, through the midfield and can even move forward to offer some run and poise in attack.

Has revealed there were talks with the Suns shortly after his delisting at Alberton Oval, with the 193-gamer sure to add plenty of know-how to a young Gold Coast backline should a move transpire.

Jarrod Lienert

Another Port Adelaide defender unable to cement his place in Ken Hinkley's backline this year, Lienert has offered great depths to the Power and could do the same elsewhere.

An elite long-kicking option out of defence, Lienert recorded a disposal efficiency of 97% in the SANFL this season from his 279 touches with the Power.

Also amassed 23.3 disposals, 5.6 marks and nine rebounds 50s per game across his 10 appearances in the reserves in 2021.

Patrick Naish

A father-son selection that couldn't quite break into a star-studded Tigers midfield, Naish has plenty of football left in his career and could offer similar depth to a new club for 2022.

Richmond relied on Naish's services on six occasions this season, with the 22-year-old managing to have a significant impact in the Tigers' Round 9 win over the Giants, collecting 15 possessions, five marks and three inside 50s.

Another midfielder that may gain interest from other clubs that were unable to add to their followers in the trade window.

Jack Lonie

Recent recruitment has seen Lonie's place at Moorabbin fall down the pecking order, with Dan Butler, Jack Higgins, Jack Billings and Cooper Sharman gaining more minutes in Brett Ratten's forward line across the past two seasons.

Despite gaining interest from other clubs 12 months ago, Lonie is now without a home, however, there could still be some interest from elsewhere.

Has played 87 games for the Saints since making his debut in 2015, booting 73 goals as a handy small forward in the red, white and black.

Marty Hore

The luckless Demon's last game came in Round 23, 2019, with a string of setbacks keeping the young defender sidelined.

His rookie season two years ago showed plenty of promise and poise down back for a struggling Melbourne outfit, with opportunities under Simon Goodwin now scarce given the club's meteoric rise.

Should his 2019 campaign be anything to go off, patience put toward Hore's career could see a club reap the rewards of a smart and capable backman.

Any side wanting a clean ball user coming off half-back should set their sights on the delisted Demon as a high priority.
