Delisted Geelong defender Oscar Murdoch has returned to his junior club, Newtown & Chilwell, for the 2025 Geelong Football Netball League season.

Murdoch spent two seasons at Kardinia Park after joining the club as a Rookie Draft selection, taken at Pick 18 in a draft haul that also included Jhye Clark, Phoenix Foster and Oscar Riccardi.

The 20-year-old played 28 games at the VFL level across his pair of seasons with the Cats, who he joined as a local product out of the Geelong Falcons.

Murdoch featured in 18 games at the state league level in 2024, averaging 10.3 disposals and 3.4 marks per game and would feature in the club's pair of finals matches against grand finalists Werribee and Southport.

One of seven players cut by the Cats shortly after Geelong's finals exit, Murdoch has returned to his former club Newtown & Chilwell for the 2025 season.

"Newtown is thrilled to welcome back Oscar after a year (sic) on the Cats AFL list," a club post read.

"Oscar will be a great asset for the club for many years to come. We can't wait to see him on the field in 2025."

The Eagles, who will be coached by Geelong legend Steve Johnson from next year,  managed an eight-placed finish in the GFNL in 2024, recording six wins from their 18 games.
