Recently delisted Hawk Denver Grainger-Barras and Werribee star midfielder Dom Brew are just two names invited to return to the respective AFL clubs they are training with this pre-season in a bid to earn an AFL contract through the Supplemental Selection Period.
Grainger-Barras suffered a shoulder issue at Carlton's pre-season training last week but has since returned for every session since without concern.
Grainger-Barrass played 28 games for the Hawks after his top 10 selection in the 2020 National Draft, but was delisted after failing to cement a spot in the best 22.
Carlton invited the 22-year-old to train with the club in November, vying with three other hopefuls for the Blues' last two list spots. Liam McMahon, Sam Durdinย andย Matt Carroll were the three other train-on individuals, and have all been invited back alongside Grainger-Barras for training in 2025, per AFL.com.au's Josh Gabelich.
Former Port Adelaide player Francis Evans, one-year Hawk Ethan Phillips and Carlton VFL-listed forward Will White have also trained with the Blues this pre-season, and are expected to continue doing so next year.
The Western Bulldogs have blessed Dom Brew with more time at the club in 2025, after the J.J Liston Medal winner injured his quad in his first week of training with the team. The 27-year-old continued training on a modified program after his injury, but will be hopeful to resume with the main training group in the new year.
Essendon have invited back Will Hoare and Kane Baldwin, whilst former Sun Sandy Brock will continue to train next year with West Coast.
Across the AFL landscape, Southport train-on invitee Ben Jepson and delisted Sun Hewago Oea are yet to receive an invite back for next year with Gold Coast but are expected to.
Fremantle train-on players Isaiah Dudleyย andย Baynen Lowe are likely to continue training in the West as they were only recruited last week following Odin Jones' severe spinal injury placed him on the inactive list.
Left-field invite Josh Lai, who was scouted from Cheltenham in the Southern Football Netball League, is also yet to receive a formal invite back, but is likely to be given further time to impress Port Adelaide recruiters in 2025, as will VFL-listed North Melbourne player Jack Watkins.
Only three players remain officially signed, with Quinton Narkle (Fremantle) and Jaxon Prior (Essendon) given another AFL lifeline, while SANFL ruckman Harry Boyd earned his first spot on an AFL list with St Kilda.
The SSP window closes on February 21.
