The Melbourne Demons are reportedly interested in building a new training base at the Caulfield Racecourse as part of a multi-million dollar redevelopment of the site, per reports from The Herald Sun.

Heading into season 2023, the Demons are spread across Melbourne, with their training taking place at Gosch's Paddock and Casey Fields while their administration and football department run out of the MCG and AAMI Park, respectively.

The new proposal, which would require state government funding, would see a new training base -including a training oval and facilities - built in the middle of and around the racecourse, connected by underground tunnels.

The plan to develop a new base has been a long held one for the Demons, who are eager to bring club departments under one roof and prevent travelling to and from Casey Fields, a 50km journey from the city.

The Demons trained on the MCG, prior to being kicked off the hallowed turf in 1985. After that, they moved to the Junction Oval before settling at their new, and current home, at AAMI Park in 2010.

Melbourne are currently cross-code tenants at AAMI Park, sharing the base with Melbourne Storm and Melbourne Victory.

Should the reported plan not gain any traction, the Demons are also reportedly considering redeveloping an area surrounding AAMI Park in order to give the club more room and better access to facilities.

The proposals are set to be debated on February 20, when Melbourne hold their annual general meeting.
