Melbourne has reportedly put a trade offer in front of the Adelaide Crows for wantaway forward Shane McAdam, as the two sides continue negotiations.

McAdam recently made his movement intentions clear, officially requesting an Adelaide departure in favour of the Demons this off-season.

The Crows and Demons have since been negotiating his release, with Melbourne apparently putting an offer to Adelaide's bosses as of Friday afternoon.

According to AFL Media journalist Cal Twomey, the Dees have tabled one of their future second-round draft selections to the Crows for the 28-year-old.

The future second-rounder is one of two that the Demons currently possess following the club's offloading of wantaway ruckman Brodie Grundy to the Sydney Swans.

News is yet to filter through as to whether Adelaide would be satisfied parting with McAdam for a second-round price.

The Crows, meanwhile, have been intrigued by the prospect of luring South Australian Demons forward Harrison Petty to West Lakes this off-season, perhaps as part of a deal that sends McAdam to Melbourne.

However, the Dees appear adamant in their desire to retain Petty, particularly as he remains under contract at Melbourne.

In other Demons player movement news, in addition to Grundy's departure, Melbourne also farewelled out-of-favour midfielder James Harmes to the Western Bulldogs in exchange for a future third-round selection. The club also lost James Jordon to Sydney via free agency.

This year's exchange period is scheduled to conclude on Wednesday, October 18 at 7:30 PM (AEDT).
