Melbourne has secured the signature of young gun, Christian Salem, for a further two years.

Salem has averaged a career high 22 disposals in 11 games so far this year and has been an instrumental player for the Dees this season.

The only game he has missed this season was due to suspension, after he copped a one-game ban for striking Shaun Higgins in round nine.

The former No.9 draft pick, who will now be a Demon until the end of the 2019 season, said he had no hesitation in re-signing.

"There were no concerns about going into the season unsigned from my end," Salem said

"I knew my manager (Paul Connors) and the club were going to get it done eventually so it was just a matter of time."

Salem arrived at Melbourne as part of the famous 'Josh Kelly' trade in 2013. The Demons traded pick No.2 to the Giants, who sent Dom Tyson and pick No.9 (Salem) to Melbourne.
