Cut Port Adelaide backman Tom Clurey has ventured to the Northern Territory to continue his football career, joining Southern Districts in the state's premier division.
Clurey's move north comes after his 12-year career at Alberton came to an end, with the Power defender opting to look elsewhere from 2025 despite having a contract for next year.
The veteran stopper has 124 games of AFL experience to his name, with the end of his career in South Australia significantly hampered by injuries.
Back, jaw and knee procedures saw Clurey's impact limited before and throughout his 2023 campaign, with the 30-year-old spending this year in the SANFL to take out Port Adelaide's best and fairest.
Clurey had been linked with a potential move to West Coast during the player exchange period but did not secure a club switch, with the Eagles looking elsewhere in the off-season. The Western Australian club still has a list spot free for 2025 and have a train-on vacancy for the Supplemental Selection Period.
In a bid to continue his football career, Clurey has joined the Southern Districts Crocs for the NTFL's 2024-25 season, which runs across summer - giving players a window to continue playing during the winter competitions' off-season.
Clurey, a product of Invergordon in Victoria's north, played for the Crocs on Saturday in their Round 11 bout with the Palmerston Magpies. The former Power backman was listed in the Crocs' squad alongside ex-teammate Steven Motlop, while former GWS and West Coast swingman Jarrod Brander is also listed with Southern Districts.
The Crocs claimed a heavy win over the Magpies at Cazalys Arena to continue their dominance atop the NTFL ladder, having won nine of their 10 matches this season.
