Wantaway Fremantle wingman Liam Henry is understood to be close to nominating St Kilda as his preferred destination after lodging a trade request away from the Dockers last week.

Henry has garnered reported interest from the Saints and Hawthorn over recent weeks, with the 22-year-old seeking a move east after four years at Cockburn.

The Western Australian enjoyed a breakout second half of this year after being placed on the periphery of selection under Justin Longmuir, with Henry putting up career-best numbers in a role further up the field.

After transitioning from a small forward role to the wing, Henry effectively complemented the Dockers' inside onballers to see his stock quickly soar as the off-season neared.

At the conclusion of the home and away season, in line with the end of his contract with Fremantle, Henry officially requested a move away from the club that selected him with a top 10 pick as a graduate of their Next Generation Academy.

With the Hawks and Saints circling, Henry has reportedly landed on choosing the Saints as his preferred destination for 2024, looking to reunite with former Dockers coach Ross Lyon at Moorabbin.

According to AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey, Henry is set to officially nominate St Kilda as his desired landing spot.

While Henry is off-contract, the Saints will need to trade for the Cottesloe junior, with Fremantle potentially demanding a first-round pick in exchange for the young speedster.

The Saints currently enter the draft at Pick 13, with their later selections sitting at 32, 51 and 87, along with their future selections for 2024's count.

The future of St Kilda free agent Jade Gresham is yet to be settled, with a move away from the red, white and black for the midfield-forward to see the Saints secure free agency compensation and further add to their draft hand.

Fremantle hold selections 21, 40, 52, 58 and 79 for this year's draft after trading away their 2023 first and second-round selections to Melbourne. Picks 21 and 40 were owned by North Melbourne as part of the AFL's assistance package that was moved to the Dockers last year for Griffin Logue and Darcy Tucker.
