Collingwood could swing a major selection surprise for Friday's season-defining clash against West Coast, with mid-season recruit John Noble believed to be in the mix for an AFL debut.

With the Magpies' top four hopes slipping after losing three of their last five games and a host of senior regulars missing through injury and suspension, it is believed coach Nathan Buckley could turn to the 22-year-old in an effort to spark his side.

Noble started the 2019 season playing for SANFL club West Adelaide, where he gathered 21.7 disposals per game at 88 per cent efficiency in seven games before being selected with the 14th pick in May's mid-season draft.

He has since collected 24.3 disposals per game in three VFL outings to press his claim for a spot in the Collingwood 22.

Noble would become the third mid-season draftee to play for his new side after Ryan Gardner and Kyle Dunkley debuted for the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne, respectively.
