Two standalone sides will battle for this year's VFL premiership, with Werribee and Southport booking their place in the 2024 season decider.

The Tigers and Sharks will go head-to-head at IKON Park on Sunday, September 22 after claiming preliminary final victories this weekend over Brisbane and Footscray respectively.

Minor premiers Werribee handled the Lions in trying conditions at Avalon Airport Oval to the tune of 20 points in their second showing of the finals series.

Last year's grand finalists are back in the final game of the season after a dominant home and away campaign and formidable finals run to date.

Southport took the longer route to get to the grand final, having defeated Frankston, Geelong and Footscray to return to the big stage two years on from their loss to Casey in the 2022 premiership decider.

The Queensland club managed a 10-point win over the Bulldogs on Saturday to join Werribee in the 2024 VFL Grand Final.

The two sides met once during the regular season, with Werribee claiming a three-point win in Round 2 at Fankhauser Reserve.

Next Sunday's match will take place at Princes Park at 3:10pm (AEST) and will be broadcast on the Seven Network.
