The AFLW is set to break the record for the highest attendance at a stand-alone domestic women's sport event during the round two clash between Fremantle and Collingwood at Optus Stadium in Perth.
38,000 tickets have already been sold for the Saturday night fixture which is the first football game to be played at the new Optus Stadium.
The AFLW attendance record is currently held between Carlton and Collingwood after their opening game last season sold-out Ikon Park with 24,568 fans, however the AFLW is expecting over 50,000 fans to flock to Optus Stadium on February 10.
Fremantle AFLW captain Kara Donnellan can't wait for the opportunity to play in such an amazing atmosphere.
“I’m trying not to think about it too much, to be honest,” Donnellan told Fox Sports News.
“It’s fantastic for female footy and fantastic for the AFLW, but more importantly I think for Fremantle and women’s footy in WA.
“To have that many people turn up to a game and hopefully get us over the line, it’ll be pretty amazing. I can’t wait for them all to be cheering for us.
“I’ll probably feel a bit sick and nervous, but we’re so lucky we get these opportunities to play in front of incredible crowds. Hopefully I’ll get a few seconds to soak it all up.”
Optus Stadium hosted it's first ever sporting event last Sunday, with 53,781 fans checking into the new venue for the final One-Day cricket match between Australia and England for the summer.
