Gold Coast has secured Adelaide tall Elliott Himmelberg via free agency on Friday.

Himmelberg attempted to depart the Crows last year, lured by joining his brother at GWS a key reason for the move.

However, failing to broker a successful trade, the 26-year-old has now exercised his free agency rights, meaning the Suns haven't had to give up anything.

Himmelberg was taken with Pick 51 in the 2016 National Draft, playing 50 games, including nine in 2024.

The 198cm has played in a multitude of roles but best suits a spot in the forward line, which has been occupied by Taylor Walker, Darcy Fogarty and Riley Thilthorpe.

Himmelberg will join the Suns who have a young forward line, consisting of Ben King, Jed Walter and Mac Andrew, who can play at either end.

The acquisition of the Crow will be to replace the void that will likely be left by Jack Lukosius, who requested a trade to Port Adelaide.

Lukosius is contracted for another two seasons but should make the move to Alberton next week when the trade period opens.

The AFL confirmed that Adelaide will receive no compensation for the loss of Himmelberg.

Crows GM List Management and Strategy Justin Reid said Himmelberg would leave West Lakes with the Club's best wishes.

“Elliott is a popular member of our playing group who has made a big contribution to our Club over the past eight seasons,” Reid said.

“We thank Elliott for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future.”
