Out-of-favour ruckman Jordon Sweet is officially a Port Adelaide player after his trade away from the Western Bulldogs was completed on Wednesday.
Sweet, who struggled for senior playing opportunities behind All-Australian tap maestro Tim English at the Western Bulldogs, requested an Alberton move this off-season.
The 25-year-old has played 11 senior games since being drafted in 2018 and did not manage to feature at the AFL level at all this year.
Hailing from South Australia, Sweet returns to his home state after registering a monstrous 2023 campaign in the VFL playing for Footscray.
The deal will see Port Adelaide trade Pick 50 to the Western Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs were eager to retain Sweet and had placed a contract in front of him for most of the year, according to the club's list and recruiting manager Sam Power.
"We were keen to retain Jordon, having had a contract on the table for the majority of the year. However, the ruckman has a desire to return to his home state," said Power.
Port Adelaide has been after multiple ruckmen during this trade period, having also acquired second-fiddle Richmond ruckman Ivan Soldo.
The Power has been involved in numerous dealings this off-season, as they look to acquire Essendon's Brandon Zerk-Thatcher and Geelong's Esava Ratugolea in addition to Sweet, while it looks likely to offload Xavier Duursma to the Bombers and lose out of contract forward Orazio Fantasia to the GWS Giants.
After the free agency signing period concluded last Friday, the trade period is scheduled to cease on Wednesday, October 18 at 7:30PM (AEDT).
