The West Coast Eagles have traded Pick 3 to Carlton in exchange for Picks 12, 14 and small forward Matt Owies, with Richmond joining in to make it a three-way deal by sending Liam Baker to West Coast in return for the Eagles' newly acquired Pick 14.
The trade sees several other picks also changing hands, with Carlton giving Pick 73 to the Eagles and receiving Picks 63 and 68 in return.
The trade comes after Blues small forward Matt Owies found himself without a contract at season end, and the now ex-Tiger Liam Baker wanted a move back home to Western Australia.
Carlton has done well to trade up to Pick 3 in what is expected to be an outstanding draft class. Notably, the Blues retain sufficient draft points to bid on the Camporeale twins, whom they have been openly keen on for some time.
The Eagles also gain some much needed experience, adding the two-time premiership player in Liam Baker, as well as Owies, who managed to kick 33 goals for the Blues last season.
Although losing Pick 3, dropping to 12 isn't the end of the world for West Coast. It is possible that the Eagles will look to secure big-bodied midfielder Bo Allen who could potentially slip to them at Pick 12.
