Melbourne has sent Pick 47 to the Brisbane Lions in exchange for Tom Fullarton.
It had originally been reported last week that Fullarton was seeking a trade to a Victorian club, searching for greater opportunity after he did not play a game at senior level in 2023.
Following Brodie Grundy's departure, Fullarton fills a key positional role for the Demons as he can slot in alongside Max Gawn in the ruck and play forward when required.
Initially recruited as a Category B rookie in 2018, Fullarton has played 19 games for the Lions over five seasons, with Brisbane's tall forward setup meaning he has been devoid of opportunities in his time at the club.
Melbourne acquired Pick 47 and a future second-round pick from the Sydney Swans on Wednesday afternoon in a trade that saw ruckman Brodie Grundy land at his third club.
It's been a chaotic trade period for Melbourne which saw rumours swirl regarding Clayton Oliver's position at the club, whilst Grundy departed after just one year at the Demons despite having four years remaining on his contract.
Midfielder James Jordon also left for Sydney via free agency, with Fullarton the first addition to the Demons' list this off-season.
Melbourne are also expected to secure Adelaide forward Shane McAdam ahead of next Wednesday's trade period deadline.
