West Coast backman Tom Barrass has officially joined Hawthorn, who have sent the Eagles three future picks; a first, second and third round selection in exchange for the premiership defender.

Hawthorn also gained a future fourth round pick as part of the deal.

The two clubs came to an agreement following ongoing discussions that were sparked after Barrass' trade request to join the Hawks in late August.

Given that Barrass was under contract with West Coast until the end of 2027, coupled with his pedigree as a top-line key defender, the Eagles set a high price in their negotiations, with the Hawks eventually handing over the three-pick package to attain the 29-year-old.

The trade leaves the Hawks still with Picks 33, 71, 77 for this year's AFL Draft, while the Eagles hold selections 12, 26, 73 for 2024's intake.

Barrass joins a Hawks outfit coming off a semi-finals finish that also added St Kilda backman Josh Battle earlier this off-season via free agency.

The departure of Barrass and arrival of future picks is expected to strengthen West Coast's future draft plans.
