League-wide inaccuracy has been a huge talking point surrounding the AFL this season and Hawthorn legend Jason Dunstall is another former player who is speaking out against the poor execution.
Statistically speaking, AFL players are kicking goals on about 52.5% of all set shots and just 64.5% of all set shots from inside the corridor in the forward 50.
The four-time premiership player says he is frustrated by the league's goal kicking accuracy, explaining that it is going backwards, not forwards.
“I’m really frustrated by it [goal kicking],” Dunstall said on Fox Footy’s AFL 360.
“Set shots from in the corridor, inside 50, have dropped four per cent over the last six years. So it has gone from 68 per cent down to 64 per cent.”
Dunstall is ranked third on the all-time goal kicking list, with 1254 goals credited to his name throughout his career.
“The biggest frustration is I watch players every week whose run up is wrong. And the frustration isn’t just the player who is doing it, it’s the coaches that are allowing them to do it,” he explained.
“There are some basics that are going wrong and it’s just frustrating to watch."
