Eight more AFL hopefuls have been granted exemptions for the June 1 Mid-Season Rookie Draft by the AFL.

Ahead of the league's next talent intake, only players who nominated for last year's National Draft are automatically deemed eligible for the Mid-Season Draft, with anyone who did not nominate requiring an exemption.

West Adelaide's Josh Carmichael, Sandringham Dragons' Hugo Hall-Kahan and Port Melbourne's Will Reinhold have already been granted exemptions for the draft, with a further eight players now understood to have also been given the green light, according to AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey.

SANFL pair Brett Turner (Glenelg) and Kim Kantila (South Adelaide), WAFL trio Zac Strom (South Fremantle), Wade Derksen (Peel Thunder) and Jake Florenca (South Fremantle), as well as VFL trio James Blanck (Box Hill), Liam Reidy (Frankston) and Kallan Dawson (Williamstown) have been handed exemptions.

Florenca could become a two-club player in the 2022 season, having already featured for West Coast as a top-up player to aid Adam Simpson's COVID and injury-hit list.

The 25-year-old featured in the Eagles' Round 8 loss to Brisbane, where he recorded 19 disposals and seven tackles in his top-flight debut.

Strom was set to train with Fremantle in the pre-season as part of the Supplemental Selection Period intake, however, the versatile tall's ineligibility also ruled him out of a stint at Cockburn earlier this year.

With the Dockers holding an open list spot for the Mid-Season Draft, Strom could be considered for Justin Longmuir's side this time around - a nice touch given Strom's younger sister, Mim, play's for the club's AFLW outfit.

The string of exemptions comes as the aforementioned 11 players are likely to have caught the eye of the AFL clubs ahead of the Mid-Season Draft.

Currently; CarltonFremantleGeelongHawthorn, Richmond, Port Adelaide and Sydney each have one spot open on their list, while Collingwood could weigh up moving injured swingman Nathan Kreuger to their inactive list.

Clubs will be required to submit their final list of vacancies to the AFL at the close of business on May 31, with the draft order to be in the reverse ladder order after Round 11.
