The West Coast Eagles have fired back at an 'erroneous' media report claiming a crisis board meeting took place at Lathlain on Thursday.

Instead, the club's hierarchical leaders were understood to be attending a 'leadership luncheon', noted to be a regular event on West Coast's club calendar.

The Eagles have been in the public line of fire for much of this season, playing non-competitively in numerous games en route to a dismal one-win campaign thus far.

However, while heavily scrutinised for their on-field shortcomings this year, the Eagles chose to set the record straight on this particular off-field topic, releasing a 'clarifying' statement on Thursday evening.

"The West Coast Eagles wish to clarify an erroneous media report suggesting that a crisis meeting of the board is being held at Mineral Resources Park today," the statement reads.

"Some of the club's executives and directors are engaged in a leaders' lunch in a club function room with senior management of our corporate partners. The leadership luncheon is an annual event.

"Some guests at the function have also been wrongly identified in photographs as being club directors."

In addition to senior coach Adam Simpson, who has faced a barrage of criticism this year, Eagles CEO Trevor Nisbett is also thought to be in danger of being stripped of his position at the cessation of this season.

West Coast's firm rejection is thought to be aimed at a report published by The West Australian, which altered the headline of a story regarding Simpson and Nisbett from 'crisis meeting' to 'crisis talks' in response to the Eagles' fervent statement.

West Coast has a golden opportunity to secure its second win of the season this weekend when it hosts lowly North Melbourne at Optus Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
