Port Adelaide have confirmed sidelined forward Sam Powell-Pepper has recommitted at Alberton Oval a year before he was eligible for free agency.

The contract extension will see Powell-Pepper tied to the Power until the end of the 2029 season, taking the 26-year-old through to 13 seasons with the club.

Currently out of action until next year due to an ACL injury suffered in the early stages of this season, Powell-Pepper spoke of his love for the club and eagerness to continue playing for Port Adelaide.

“I just love being at Port Adelaide, and I can't imagine playing anywhere else,” Powell-Pepper said.

“I've made so many great mates here and my family has been welcomed at the club with open arms.

“While this year has been tough for me personally with my injury, it's taught me lessons about patience and resilience, and about being a great leader, even when you're not on the field.

“Being in the leadership group this year has been a career highlight for me, and I can't wait to come back stronger next year.”

Powell-Pepper, a Western Australian product, has played 142 games for the Power since making his debut in 2017 against Sydney. He played 22 games in his debut season and featured in at least 16 games in all seven seasons prior to 2024.

Meanwhile, Essendon have announced Archie Roberts has added a further year to his contract with the Bombers to now be signed to the red and black until the end of 2026.

Roberts, who's set to see the first half of his draft contract reach an end this year, has secured a short-term extension just a month after making his AFL debut.

The young Bombers flanker has played three games at AFL level since earning his maiden appearance in Round 21 against Fremantle, with the half-back collecting 18 disposals, four tackles and five marks on debut.

He has since shown strong form across his past two games, highlighted with a 25-disposal outing against Sydney last week.

“I'm absolutely stoked to extend to 2026 and to be a part of this special group,” Roberts said.

“I've loved my first season with the boys, and being rewarded with senior footy has topped an awesome year. I'm looking forward to having a positive impact on the footy club in the years to come and helping drive this club to ultimate success.”

Roberts was drafted to Essendon with Pick 54 in last year's National Draft out of the Sandringham Dragons following a premiership-winning year in the Talent League.
