Essendon defender Martin Gleeson is believed to be "more than open" to a move away from Tullamarine after falling out-of-favour with the Bombers in 2020.

It is understood that Essendon have tabled a one-year deal for the 26-year-old, with Gleeson hoping to secure a long-term contract.

Gleeson signed a two-year deal at the end of the 2018 season and is now placed as an unrestricted free agent.

โ€œI think, and other clubs think as well, that if they can get him out on a two-year or three-year extension that heโ€™d be more than open to looking around for opportunities elsewhere," AFL reporter Cal Twomey said.

Gleeson joined the Bombers in 2012 and played 13 games in 2020.
