Essendon key forward Peter Wright could be sidelined for an extended period after a report revealed that he suffered a high-grade ligament strain in his ankle.
Wright has found himself on the outer as Brad Scott is willing to utilise Nate Caddy, Sam Caddy, Kyle Langford and SSP pick-up Tom Edwards during the pre-season, featuring more so in the VFL side.
Unfortunately for the former Sun, an injury in yesterday's VFL contest could see him miss the opening weeks of the 2025 season.
The Bombers were supposed to kick off the new campaign against Gold Coast on Saturday but due to Tropical Cyclone Alfred, the game was postponed until Round 24.
Scott has looked at bringing more versatility and speed into the club's forward line, focusing on a high-pressure front half game.
Since 2022, Wright has battled with injury and form to cement his spot in the senior side, putting together 24 outings in the past two years for a return of 38 goals.
The Bombers are also looking at using Draper and emerging ruckman Nick Bryan through the middle and up forward, meaning the 28-year-old might've already missed out on selection.
Essendon has yet to confirm the injury or the extent of it.
Scott and his men will now be seen for the first time in 2025 on Friday at the MCG against Hawthorn.
More to come.
