Sydney assistant coach Dean Cox has once again put a line through his name for a switch to his former club, West Coast, despite reports indicating there's more to play out.

Late in August, onย Channel 9'sย Footy Classified, journalist Damien Barrett came forth that the Eagles weren't giving up on Cox as the Adam Simpson replacement.

"The question, I know for a fact, will be asked of Dean Cox again the moment the Sydney Swans' season is over," Barrett said.

However, the West Coast great was probed more recently on what his future looked like amid preparation for the Swans' preliminary final in a week's time.

Cox didn't mince his words in pledging his alliance to Sydney and John Longmire for next year but remained coy about a succession plan.

"I've had a contract with them going forward and it hasn't changed," Cox said onย SEN.

"No I don't (have any intentions on leaving). I've said that a few times already and that hasn't changed.

"I said that to Don (Pyke) previously this year."

It is however, long believed that Cox could take over from Sydney coach John Longmire in due course, but no plan has been confirmed as of yet.

"No I haven't (got a succession plan)," Cox added.

The Swans are enjoying a week off following an epic six-point victory over cross-town rivals GWS in last Saturday's qualifying final.

As a result of Isaac Heeney's heroics, Sydney are in the box seat to return to the last Saturday in September, a stage they know well.

Longmire and his men were grand finalists in 2022 and faced a rampaging Geelong outfit, which isn't too farfetched to be recreated in two week's time.

The Swans will await to see the victor of Port Adelaide and Hawthorn before preparations ramp up.

Their captain Callum Mills has already been ruled out of the penultimate match with a minor hamstring strain.
