A total of 174 players are eligible for the 2024 AFL Rising Star Award, with last year's top draft stars set to be challenged by a string of experienced players for the award.
Despite having the second oldest list in the competition for the season ahead, Geelong have the equal most players able to earn a Rising Star nomination with 12 names eligible.
The Cats are tied with 2023 finalists GWS, as well as last year's wooden spooners West Coast, for the most eligible players.
First-round draft selections Jhye Clark and Connor O'Sullivan headline the Cats' young crop of talent, with the former entering his second season at Kardinia Park after making just the sole appearance last year.
Also from the 2022 National Draft class are Carlton pair Lachie Cowan and Jaxon Binns, Collingwood wingman Ed Allan, Essendon's Elijah Tsatas and Alwyn Davey, Kangaroo George Wardlaw and uncapped Bulldogs Jedd Busslinger, all of whom could be viewed as strong chances for the award.
Busslinger is one of three first-round selections at the Kennel who are eligible for this year's Rising Star, with the tall defender joined by third-year utility Sam Darcy and new recruit Ryley Sanders.
Sanders headlines the new crop of rookies who look ready to have an impact at AFL level this year, with Pick 1 selections Harley Reid and North Melbourne ace Colby McKercher also impressing over the pre-season.
Other names who could be strong contenders for the award this year are third-year Sydney midfielder Angus Sheldrick and Melbourne speedster Bailey Laurie, who have played nine and five games for their respective clubs to date.
To be eligible for the Rising Star Award players are required to be 21 years of age or under as of January 1, 2024, and can't have played more than 10 matches at AFL level.
