Former Melbourne and GWS defender Adam Tomlinson is said to have garnered the attention of Collingwood ahead of this year's Mid-Season Draft.

Tomlinson, who was let go by the Demons at the end of last year, has started 2025 with North Melbourne's VFL team after failing to find a second chance in the top flight.

The veteran defender has started the season strong, averaging 25.5 disposals and 8.5 marks per game for the Roos' reserves across his pair of appearances.

Tomlinson would be considered one of the more unfortunate players to have not been offered a new deal or be on an AFL list, with the 185-gamer a reliable asset for Melbourne in his eight games under Simon Goodwin last year.

The 31-year-old had reportedly emerged on West Coast's radar earlier this year as a potential Supplemental Selection Period acquisition, however a training stint in Perth didn't arise.

Tomlinson's chances of joining a third AFL club are said to still be alive, with 9 News' Tom Morris revealing on Sunday night that the Magpies have emerged as a keen suitor.

Having lost defender Reef McInnes to an ACL injury, Collingwood have begun scouting potential replacements who could be acquired through the Mid-Season Draft, with Tomlinson among the names reportedly on the Magpies' hitlist.

"Collingwood is considering reviving Adam Tomlinson's career in the Mid-Season Draft," Morris said.

"He's one of several state league players the Pies are keeping close tabs on to replace the injured Reed McInnes."

The Magpies would be able to move McInnes to the long-term injury list to create a free list spot for the Mid-Season Draft, which is likely to fall at the end of May or in early June.

West Coast and the Western Bulldogs already have list spots open for the mid-year intake given they decided against filling vacancies through the Rookie Draft or SSP.

Like Collingwood, Gold Coast could open a list spot due to the long-term knee setback of Charlie Ballard.

Both Carlton and Brisbane are seen to be holding out hope that sidelined veterans Nic Newman and Lincoln McCarthy could return late into the season despite suffering long-term injuries this year.
