The Gold Coast Suns have made another addition to their coaching panel, with premiership Tiger Shaun Grigg set to reunite with former coach Damien Hardwick in a switch to Carrara.

The premiership player was an outstanding servant for Richmond, playing 171 games across eight seasons. Grigg was initially drafted to Carlton with the 19th overall pick, playing 43 games before asking for a trade to Richmond at the end of the 2010 season for more playing time.ย

Grigg was contracted at Geelong until the end of 2024, but has agreed to a move that would see him working with his former coach after spending the last four seasons at Geelong. Grigg moved straight into a coaching role after retiring at the end of the 2019 season.ย

In a statement released by the Cats on Monday afternoon, it was confirmed that Grigg had been released from his contractual obligations and would be making his Sunshine State reunion iminiently.

โ€œShaun has been a great contributor to the Club for the last four seasons as a development coach and then as assistant working closely with our midfield group," head coach Chris Scott said.

โ€œHe has had a positive impact on our players and football program and we wish Shaun, Sarah, Sonny and Spencer all the best for the future.โ€

The Suns confirmed Grigg's arrival via their own statement within the space of the hour.

โ€œWe're thrilled Shaun has chosen to continue his coaching journey at the SUNS and we look forward to him working with our current group of coaches and Damien, to continue to drive our playing group forward,โ€ Gold Coast's GM of Football Wayne Campbell said.

The former makeshift premiership ruckman isn't the only former Tigers member to head to the Suns, with โ€˜Dimma' already poaching Richmond's football analysis manager, Hayden Hill. A long-time servant of the Richmond footy club, Hill worked at the Tigers from 2001 before choosing to reunite with Hardwick.ย

Hardwick officially joined the Suns last month on a six-year deal that will see him tied to the Queensland club until the end of 2029.
