Brendan Fevola, the dual Coleman Medallist and beloved Carlton legend, has hinted at a potential AFL coaching career after an unexpected stint with Collingwood's AFLW team sparked a newfound ambition.
Despite his longstanding connection with Carlton, Fevola was invited by Collingwood CEO Craig Kelly to assist at an AFLW training session.
Fevola took up the opportunity — originally intended as a “punishment” after he inaccurately speculated about Kelly's career plans on-air.
The experience left a lasting impression on the 43-year-old, who said it was the first time in over a decade that he had trained with a team.
“I actually loved it and they got around me. I felt like I was one of the players,” Fevola shared on Fox FM's Fifi, Fev & Nick.
He described being “up and about all day,” adding, “It makes me want to be a coach.”
Fevola worked closely with Collingwood's forwards, sharing his expertise in forward play.
“Forwards have to create space and work together,” he advised, underscoring the challenges of playing as a forward.
The retired full-forward has previously ventured into coaching at Melton South in the Ballarat Football League and will also continue his playing career with East Sunbury in 2025, but the Collingwood cameo has seemingly lit a new fire for coaching at a higher level.
While he may never fully trade Carlton blue for Collingwood black and white, Fevola remains open to future coaching opportunities — wherever they may take him.
