It's been a disappointing season for the Giants in 2022, with the side sitting in 15th after 18 games this season.
A regular finals appearance maker in previous seasons, the Giants haven't been able to find consistent form this year amidst ongoing off-field changes.
Long-time coach Leon Cameron parted ways with the club earlier in the year, with Mark McVeigh taking the reigns as the search for a successor is identified.
To add insult to injury, the Giants are likely to face an exodus this year, with the likes of Bobby Hill, Tim Taranto, Tanner Bruhn and Jacob Hopper linked with moves away from the club this season.
With a tight salary cap, the departures of the quartet could free up money for this off-season should they move to fill the voids left.
In saying that, here are five players the GWS Giants could target this off-season as they look for an improved 2023.
TRADE TARGETS: ADELAIDE, BRISBANE, CARLTON, COLLINGWOOD, ESSENDON, FREMANTLE, GEELONG
In what has been a career-best season for the key forward-turned-defender, Josh Battle has established himself as a vital piece of the Saints' backline.
Battle remains unsigned at RSEA Park and the Giants should have a look into securing his services to boost their backline stocks.
Sam Taylor is a gun down back for GWS, but the remaining key positions spots aren't set just yet which could provide an opportunity for a player like Battle to slot into the 22.
At just 23 years old, he still has his best years ahead of him and while he'll most likely remain a Saint beyond 2022, he could fit the bill in Western Sydney.
Battle has played all 18 games for the Saints, finally stringing some consistent game time, and has averaged 17.1 disposals, 2.1 intercept marks and two tackles per game.
With Docker's defender Griffin Logue linked to the Saints among other Victorian suitors, Battle could take up a more prominent position alongside Taylor in a struggling backline.
The Richmond superstar almost crossed to the newly formed Giants in 2013 before rejecting the move to remain at Punt Road, and what a decision that proved to be.
However, murmurs have been circulating about the now 31-year-old Martin's potential departure from the Tigers at the end of this season.
While the Swans have been the strongest name linked to Dusty's signature, the Giants would have to ask the question again of the three-time Norm Smith medallist.
Should the Giants lose Hill, Taranto, Hopper and Bruhn, Dusty can help fill the void in both the midfield and the forward line at GIANTS Stadium.
If Martin chooses to leave the Tigers, it is unlikely that Richmond will stand in his way after his contribution to the club's recent dynasty, which is good news for keen suitors.
He'd not only raise the level of the Giants' list but would almost immediately put them back towards finals contention again should he be fit and firing in 2023.
While there's been no official word on a departure from Martin, this is definitely one to keep an eye on as the season draws to a close.
A bit of a wildcard option that could be a low-risk, high-reward type of move is Sydney's fringe small forward Ben Ronke.
With Bobby Hill expected to push for a move again this off-season, the Giants will be keen to secure a small forward to replace him on their list for 2023 and beyond.
Struggling to get game time behind the likes of Tom Papley, Will Hayward and Isaac Heeney in the forward line at the Giants' cross-town rivals, Ronke could seek a move elsewhere at season's end.
He's out of contract this year but a change of scenery could be exactly what the 24-year-old needs to reignite his career which started in such a promising fashion in 2018.
Ronke kicked 24 goals in 18 games in his debut year, including seven goals in just his third career game against Hawthorn at the MCG.
He would instantly get chances to impress at the Giants in the small forward role and working alongside a star like Toby Greene, could give him the skills to grow his game to become a dangerous small forward.
In 2022, Ronke has only managed seven games and is averaging just under a goal per outing, and will be desperate to recapture his early career form once again.
He wouldn't cost much, should be open to the switch and could improve the already dynamic GWS forward line in 2023.
Just two and a half years after signing a bumper seven-year deal to remain at Collingwood, superstar ruckman Brodie Grundy's name is being thrown around as a potential trade target for rival clubs.
While he'd been strongly linked to a return to South Australia in previous years, recent reports have linked the Giants to Grundy's signature in 2023.
The two-time All-Australian ruckman has missed a large chunk of this season due to a knee injury, which has seen the rise in form of Darcy Cameron, who is playing superb football as the Magpies' ruckman.
Grundy's management has reportedly met with GWS football boss Jason McCartney over talks of a potential move to New South Wales, with the expected salary dump at GWS said to assist the Giants in their pursuit of Grundy.
The 28-year-old would cost a lot more than others on this list but the Giants would be getting one of the elite ruckmen of the competition.
With the ruck setup at GWS constantly shifting week to week with Braydon Preuss and Matt Flynn going in and out of the side, Grundy's presence could be a game changer for the Giants.
As a ruckman who gathers a lot of the football, Grundy could even work with one of Preuss or Flynn in the 22, without hindering the GWS side.
Based on the recent chatter, it'll be an interesting storyline to keep an eye on this off-season as to whether the Giants offer Collingwood an acceptable deal to part ways with their superstar big man.
Like Ronke, Matt Crouch hasn't been directly linked to GWS as of yet, but after a turbulent season at the Crows this year, the 27-year-old is likely to seek a new home this off-season.
Despite being a consistent ball winner, the Crows have not been afraid to regularly drop Crouch to the SANFL throughout 2022, leaving the midfielder frustrated.
An All-Australian in 2017, Crouch averaged over 30 disposals a game between 2017 and 2019, with his numbers dropping in 2020 due to the shortened quarters.
Once a staple of the Adelaide midfield, Crouch has only played 11 games this year and is averaging 27.4 disposals a game.
It's clear that a change of scenery is needed for Crouch, with the potential exits at the Giants opening up multiple inside midfield spots.
The Malcolm Blight medallist could become the main man of the Giants' midfield alongside the likes of Stephen Coniglio and reinvent himself in the orange and charcoal.
With the Crows showing that they aren't convinced about Crouch, he is unlikely to cost much despite his obvious talents and should he improve his disposal efficiency and ability to hit the scoreboard, we could look back at a move like this as one of the best of the year.
It's probably more likely Crouch joins brother and former Crow Brad in Victoria, the Giants would be crying out for a ready-made midfielder if they lose Taranto, Hopper and Bruhn and he could easily fill that void.
