The Giants don't manage to lure too many players to Sydney's west from rival AFL clubs, but they have managed to get the best out of some bargain buys over the years.

Spearhead Jesse Hogan and fellow ex-Demon Toby Bedford are the leading examples, with both players holding down critical roles in last year's preliminary final finish under coach Adam Kingsley.

Similar moves might need to be made at the end of the 2024 season as GWS see their premiership prospects sliding as we enter the back half of the year.

So who could the Giants chase come the end of the year? Perhaps a lockdown defender and some more key position assistance?

We name five players for GWS to potentially chase this off-season...

2. Dyson Heppell

It'd take something staggering to see Dyson Heppell end his career elsewhere given the season he's having in the red and black in 2024, but a move by the Giants that includes a coaching role once he retires could be a valuable move for all involved.

The Gold Coast Suns tried something similar in 2022 to try and lure Heppell north to utilise his leadership and experience to aid the emerging ranks under Stuart Dew.

With the potential departures of free agents Harry Perryman and Isaac Cumming at the end of the year and the inevitable loss of veteran Callan Ward to retirement in the coming years, Heppell could fill multiple voids with a move to GWS.

He could be the vocal presence in defence that steers a star-studded ship while also being accountable for his shutdown roles and ability to spring the ball out of the backline.

As mentioned, it'd be some surprise, but it's one worth considering for GWS.
