The Giants don't manage to lure too many players to Sydney's west from rival AFL clubs, but they have managed to get the best out of some bargain buys over the years.

Spearhead Jesse Hogan and fellow ex-Demon Toby Bedford are the leading examples, with both players holding down critical roles in last year's preliminary final finish under coach Adam Kingsley.

Similar moves might need to be made at the end of the 2024 season as GWS see their premiership prospects sliding as we enter the back half of the year.

So who could the Giants chase come the end of the year? Perhaps a lockdown defender and some more key position assistance?

We name five players for GWS to potentially chase this off-season...

4. Ben Patonย

New South Wales could try to claim Paton as one of their own given his time with North Albury as a junior, but the Mitta United product is a Victorian.

Nevertheless, the Saints backman is one name the Giants could look to 'bring back' north of the border at the end of the season.

Much like the aforementioned Bews, Patton could fill a role in Adam Kingsley's back six as a defender who can lockdown on small forwards while also giving some run from the rearguard.

The 25-year-old has struggled to break into Ross Lyon's side this year, playing two games as the likes of Liam Stocker, Jimmy Webster and Riley Bonner earn preference at selection.

Perhaps a move elsewhere could be on the cards for Paton should he seek senior opportunities at a contending club.
