The Cats are notorious for plucking big names, regardless of age, from rival sides in an effort to gain immediate success.
However, in recent years it hasn't exactly paid dividends, with last year's Grand Final loss the closest they've come to the holy grail in a decade.
With this, is it time that Scott and his recruiting staff started to focus on less prominent and more youthful players in an effort to propel them to another flag?
We continue our โFive trade targets for every clubโ series withย Geelong.ย The idea of these stories is to identify potentially gettable targets who could fill roles, not just link every club to the likes ofย Marcus Bontempelliย andย Patrick Cripps.
In no particular order, here are five players which the Cats recruitment team would do well to target and potentially poach.
4. Tom De Koningย
A real young target for the Cats is young Blue Tom De Koning. 'TDK', as he has become known to Carlton fans, has had a decent start to life at AFL level. His injury at the beginning of the year in the form of a lower-back stress fracture stunted his pre-season, but came back into the side in late-May.
In 2021 he has played in three games, averaging 12.6 hit-outs per game and 0.9 contested marks per game. De Koning is also running at a contested possession rate of 69.1, meaning he is not afraid to get involved in the contest and win the ball off his own hands.
"It looks like he won the $100 million in the powerball last week!"

The main draw here is the fact that his brother, Sam, is a Cats player. Re-uniting with his brother under one flag could be a lift for both De Koning brothers, and with the Cats in need of a new ruckman, Tom could be the answer they're seeking.
