St. Kilda have been a far-cry from the inspired outfit they were in season 2020, with this year proving bitterly disappointing for the most part.

However based off of recent weeks' results, the Saints might not be in as dire as a position as they first thought, beating Richmond as well as outlasting Collingwood to stay in touch with the top eight.

Despite this there are still deficiencies in Brett Ratten's squad that need to be addressed, meaning activity in the trade period might be pertinent to the Saints campaign next year.

We continue our โ€˜Five trade targets for every clubโ€™ series withย St. Kilda.ย

The idea of these stories is to identify potentially gettable targets who could fill roles, not just link every club to superstars, the likes of Marcus Bontempelliย orย Patrick Cripps.

In no particular order, here are five players which the Saints recruitment team would do well to target and potentially poach.

4. Charlie Constable

Charlie Constable is a name that will be thrown around a lot this coming trade period should Chris Scott deem him expendable.

The 22-year-old hasn't been given the opportunities he would've hoped for in his short AFL career, only managing to chalk up 12 games since his debut in 2016.

In season 2021 the inside-mid hasn't made an appearance since Round 3 in the side's win against Hawthorn where he racked up 14 touches as the medical sub.

In the VFL last week Constable starred for the Cats in their win against Essendon, racking up 41 disposals and 13 clearances and was one of Geelong's best.

The truth is that the midfielder likely won't get the game-time he wants at Geelong, and with talk that rivals will come for him, it might be wise for the Saints to be amongst them.

Despite the plethora of mids that the Saints have, if Luke Dunstan does not sign-on and looks elsewhere, Constable could be just the man to replace him.
