We're back for Round 8 of Zero Hangerโs weekly โfive useless statsโ series.
Every week Aaron Delaporte fromย Useless AFL Statsย will take a look at the top five most useless, but captivating, statistics from the weekend.
Round 8 was another that provided plenty to look at in the way of weird, bizarre and ultimately Useless Stats.
5. No goal first quarter
The goalless first quarter between Hawthorn and West Coast had the stats-men reaching for the record books. This was just the fourth time in 2922 games at the MCG both teams went without a major.
West Coast did get going in the second term, going on to win by 38 points. However, it was a long way from the St Kilda record set in 1963 of the biggest win by a team that went goalless in the first term. It was 102 points, as the Saints kicked 10 goals in the last quarter of that match against Fitzroy.
The combined score of 22.26.158 by the Hawks and Eagles was the second highest by two teams without a goal in the first term. That record belongs to Port Adelaide and Fremantle, which was set at Football Park in 2006. They had combined for 0.11 after term one, before combining for a score of 26.33.189.
