Young Magpie Jack Ginnivan has again found himself at the centre of an umpiring controversy, giving away a holding the ball free kick after being caught in a tackle.

The tackle from Port Adelaide's Robbie Gray, which occurred in the second term, drew the ire of Pies fans in the stands who believed the young forward was taken high.

The AFL recently clarified the interpretation of the high free kick rule, instructing players who duck or shrug into a tackle that they will now be penalised with a holding the ball free kick.

While Pies fans lit up social media, and the stands of the MCG, with their feelings on the decision, former Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley said on Fox Footy that the umpire had made the right call.

“There was the one that wasn‘t paid inside the forward 50 and he was a metre-and-a-half from the Port Adelaide defender and knew what he was going to do before he got there,” Buckley said.

“There wasn’t any evasive action taken. I think that one was fair enough, as was the one on the wing.”

The Pies have also been dealt a double injury blow, with Taylor Adams (groin) and Jeremy Howe (leg) both sitting out the remainder of the match.
