Footballing legend Ron Barassi has passed away, aged 87.
The Barassi family confirmed the icon's passing in a statement on Saturday afternoon.
"After a full and extraordinary life, Ronald Dale Barassi, aged 87, left us today due to complications from a fall," the family said on Saturday.
"He died peacefully, surrounded by loving family. We ask for privacy at this time."
Barassi was a six-time Melbourne premiership player, participating in the club's 1955, 1956, 1957, 1959, 1960, and 1964 flag outfits.
He played 204 games for the Demons before moving on to play for Carlton from 1965-69.
Barassi, who is in Melbourne's Hall of Fame and was awarded legend status, coached 515 combined games for Carlton, North Melbourne, Melbourne, and Sydney.
