The VFL ladder is starting to take shape as the heat turns up in the race to the finals.

Werribee Tigers jumped on top of the competition following a win against Sydney while Brisbane continued their winning ways.

Gold Coast made it two on the trot to keep them in touch with the top four and have a game in hand.

Southport Sharks were handed a reality check by the Giants while Port Melbourne kept their season alive after defeating Box Hill Hawks.

Southport Sharks (85) def. by GWS (112)

GWS senior coach Adam Kingsley will have his hands full at the selection table after multiple impressive performances that will come into consideration.

Aaron Cadman slotted five goals after falling behind the key forward pecking order while depth-tall Lachie Keefe kicked three.

Xavier O'Halloran (27 disposals, 14 tackles and six clearances) and James Peatling (35 possessions, seven clearances and six marks) were dominant while veteran defender Adam Kennedy put his name up in lights.

Darcy Jones pitched in with a pair of goals as did Phoenix Gothard and Jacob Wehr.

Sharks ruckman Brayden Crossley was instrumental in the ruck, recording a whopping 54 hit-outs along with his 17 touches.

Jacob Dawson found plenty of the ball while Jacob Heron, Keegan Gray, Campbell Lake and Ryan Banks-Smith all hit the scoreboard.

Brisbane (119) def. Coburg Lions (71)

Brisbane continued their winning ways on Saturday after an impressive consistent team effort against fellow Lions in the competition.

James Tunstill (two goals, 27 disposals and nine clearances) and Jarryd Lyons (one goal, 24 touches and eight clearances) were arguably best afield while ruckman Darcy Fort was pivotal in the victory.

Harry Sharp will come into consideration following his outing while Deven Robertson is building nicely.

As for Coburg, Joel Trudgeon would take home the coffee vouchers following his 31-disposal two-goal performance.

Flynn Gentile wasn't far behind with his 38 touches and 11 clearances while Lachlan Walker was equally as impressive.

Josh D'Intinosante slotted three majors while Kyle Weightman had an almost day, kicking 1.3.

Frankston Dolphins (46) def. by Gold Coast (80)

After recently re-signing with the club, Ned Moyle responded in a big way, recording 71 hit-outs, 13 clearances, 21 disposals and two goals in a dominant day.

Moyle was joined by Rory Atkins (33 touches and nine marks) while James Tsitas and Brayden Fiorini were also crucial to the win.

Key forwards Levi Casboult and Ethan Read kicked two goals each.

Dolphins ruckman Angus Grant was huge against Moyle, registering 12 clearances, 22 touches and a goal himself.

Sebastian Quirk and Jackson Voss had plenty of the football in the defeat.

Northern Bullants (47) def. by Casey Demons (75)

Shane McAdam is looking to return to the senior side and his three goals did him no harm.

Bailey Laurie was the highest possessions-getter for Casey while Tom Fullarton is nearing a club debut after his 21-disposal effort.

Josh Schache was quiet, kicking one goal while untried key forward Matthew Jefferson hit the scoreboard.

For the Bullants, Jorgensen matched McAdam's efforts with three majors of his own while Maison Goodman kicked a pair through the big sticks.

Patrick Fairlie gathered 30 touches and eight clearances while Felix Dreher had 27 possessions.

Essendon (98) def. Collingwood (35)

Essendon ruckman Nick Bryan is quickly becoming a rival target after dominating in the VFL.

Bryan had 26 touches, 46 hit-outs, 12 clearances and a goal, helping serve Elijah Tsatass (38 disposals and 11 clearances) and Dylan Shiel (33 possessions and six clearances).

VFL-listed players Jack Jedwab (five goals) and Jared Eckersley (three goals) were impressive in front of goal while Will Setterfield toils away in the reserves.

Finlay Macrae responded to his axing with a goal from his 26 possessions and seven tackles.

Reef McInnes kicked two goals, as did Ned Long, Josh Eyre and Ash Johnson.

Jack Bytel was the Pies' leading possession-getter with 31 while Harry DeMattia and Ed Allan showed a bit.

North Melbourne (63) def. by Footscray Bulldogs (97)

Fresh off his dropping, Caleb Daniel led the Bulldogs to a comprehensive victory, gathering 22 disposals and kicking two goals.

Untried intercept defender Jedd Busslinger snuck forward a slotted a major, whilst also collecting 24 touches and six marks.

James Harmes did his recall chances no harm while Nick Coffield is looking to build up his game following a long stint on the sidelines due to injury.

Youngster Jordan Croft kicked three goals, and Lachlan McNeil slotted two as did Charlie Clarke.

North Melbourne's Colby McKercher looks certain to return to the senior side, kicking two goals from 26 touches.

Charlie Lazzaro and Hugh Greenwood were massive in the midfield, combining for 23 clearances, 24 tackles and 50 touches.

Zane Duursma was quiet as he looked to build up his form while Griffin Logue continued to work back from his ACL injury.

Box Hill Hawks (64) def. by Port Melbourne Borough (71)

Borough captain Harvey Hooper was pivotal to the victory, collecting 32 disposals, nine clearances and a crucial goal.

Former Bulldog Billy Gowers slotted three goals to keep the scoreboard ticking over while Archi Manton was the other multiple major kicker.

Robbie McComb assisted Hooper in his efforts through the midfield as Tom Highmore controlled the defensive half in an impressive display.

Box Hill would be disappointed they couldn't secure the victory despite the efforts from Henry Hustwaite.

Hustwaite registered 34 disposals, 12 tackles and seven clearances and was helped by Josh Ward (29 touches and eight clearances) and Callum Porter (25 possessions and 19 clearances).

Key forward, Mitch Lewis is looking more and more comfortable and will be eyeing a return soon, kicking two goals in the wet.

Richmond (105) def. Carlton (69)

The Tigers were damning in the victory against Carlton led by Steely Green.

Green slotted five majors and was joined by Campbell Gray (four goals) and Sam Davidson (three).

Thomson Dow created plenty of opportunities with his hands, racking up 20 handballs for the day while VFL-listed pair Joel Garner and Lachlan Wilson were crucial to the win.

Carlton's disappointing outing overshadowed some positive individual performances.

Jack Caroll isn't far away from regaining his spot in the senior side while Jaxon Binns is in a similar boat.

Harry Lemmey slotted three majors while defensive posts Lewis Young and Caleb Marchbank proved to be a strong backup option for Michael Voss.

Sydney (45) def. by Werribee Tigers (59)

Tigers midfielder Dom Brew continues to prove the doubters wrong after a stellar performance on Sunday against the Swans.

Brew collected 27 disposals to go with his 16 tackles and nine clearances.

Hudson Garoni slotted two majors while Zac Banch did one better with three.

Jack Henderson was pivotal through the centre as Riley Bice found plenty of the Sherrin.

As for the Swans, Robbie Fox was serviceable, and Matt Roberts performed strongly but the club was relatively flat.

Aaron Francis kicked a goal as VFL-listed player Matty Lloyd slotted a trifecta.

Geelong (88) def. Sandringham Zebras (73)

Mature-age player Shaun Mannagh has forced his name into senior consideration following a six-goal 21-disposal performance.

Mannagh has been in and out of the AFL side but did himself no harm of a recall while Mitch Hardie (32 touches and seven clearances) and Ted Clohesy (21 disposals, one goal and nine tackles) aren't far behind him,

Brandan Parfitt and Jed Bews continue to build their form as Rhys Stanley proved to be a cut above in the reserves grade.

St Kilda's Mattaes Phillipou is banging down Ross Lyon's door for an opportunity at the elite level, following his two-goal, 29-touc performance.

Hugo Garcia was strong in the contest while Tim Membrey managed only one goal.

Zak Jones gathered 27 possessions while Ryan Byrnes was instrumental in keeping the Saints in the contest.
