Former Western Bulldogs coach Brendan McCartney has been unveiled as VFL club Port Melbourne's new senior coach on a three-year deal.
The 63-year-old takes the wheel at the Borough following Adam Skrobalak's decision to step down from his role after three seasons with the standalone club.
McCartney brings a wealth of top-flight experience to Port Melbourne, having been the senior coach of the Bulldogs from 2012-2014, amassing 20 wins in 66 games for a return win rate of 30.30%.
The experienced mentor resigned from the role at the end of his third season at the Kennel following a seven-win season.
He also held assistant roles with Richmond, Geelong, Essendon and Melbourne and most recently held a part-time development role at Collingwood.
"When the opportunity came to be head coach at Port Melbourne I jumped at the chance," McCartney said in a club statement.
"This is a club with a rich and proud history, and I want to be part of the story."
Port Melbourne's 2024 campaign was brought to an end over the weekend as the Borough amassed its sixth win of the season with a 27-point victory over the Northern Bullants.
Skrobalak led the club to a 16th-placed finish, a narrow fall from Port Melbourne's 2023 where the Borough managed to finish 15th with six wins also.
McCartney will lead the club into a new era as they search for their first premiership since 2017.
"Brendan's appointment is exciting for our players and is also equally exciting for our Borough faithful โ the future is in good hands," Port Melbourne general manager Sophie Williams said.
McCartney will have his feet under the best at North Port Oval in no time, with further announcements on the club's new-look coaching team to be made in the near future.
