Former Collingwood forward Liam McMahon is once again circulating among recruiters as a potential mid-season option, with Essendon believed to be interested.

The Bombers will likely open up a list spot from the injured Tom Edwards, who, after signing as an SSP selection, ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) at training last week.

Edwards had made a strong start to his AFL career, kicking three goals on debut against Adelaide in Round 2.

McMahon was previously listed at the Pies after being taken with Pick 31 in the 2020 National Draft, but never made his debut before he was axed two years later.

The 198cm spearhead kicked 45 goals in 2024 to finish second in the Jim 'Frosty' Miller Medal in a season where he won Carlton's VFL best and fairest, putting his name back on the radar.

McMahon trained with Carlton for the entire pre-season supplemental selection period but missed out on a spot at Princes Park. The Blues signed Matt Carroll, Francis Evans, and Will White instead.

McMahon has been included in the VFL squad and is expected to be picked to face the SANFL in the Barossa Valley on Saturday after kicking four goals in round one.

In Round 1 of the reserves competition, McMahon kicked four goals against Box Hill before being managed last weekend.
